The second-to-last match of the season for OGC Nice resulted in a game full of twists and turns at the Mosson Stadium.
The start of the match is full of intensity. Montpellier and Nice, although they have nothing left to play for, exchange blow for blow. It is MHSC that strikes first through Téji Savanier. The same player doubles the lead a few minutes later with a penalty following a foul by Melvin Brad on Arnaud Nordin. At that point, it seemed the Montpelliers might continue their home unbeaten streak against the Gym.
That was underestimating the former Paillade player, Gaëtan Laborde, who forces Benjamin Lecomte to make a save with a sharp strike. A first warning on the Héraultais goal that would lead to others. But it is indeed Montpellier that has the chance to kill the match on the counter. Stephy Mavididi forces Kasper Schmeichel to a magnificent save. MHSC dominates the first half.
Laborde Sounds the Charge
After the break, the balance of power shifts. Nice takes control of the match after another big chance from Stephy Mavididi. And it is Gaëtan Laborde who assists Ross Barkley at the edge of the penalty box to reduce the score. Fifteen minutes later, the trio Moffi, Barkley, Laborde stands out with the latter concluding. The game is back on. Montpellier is overwhelmed defensively. Gaëtan Laborde even scores a double by dribbling past the opposing defense.
The end of the match heats up and in this little game, it is the two goalkeepers who shine in turn. Ultimately, it is OGCN that wins this mid-table duel (3-2). A first since 2016 at the Mosson.
The only downside is the injury to Youcef Atal, who was replaced by Rosario after entering the game at halftime.
The next appointment is set for next Saturday for the reception of Lyon at 9 PM for the last day of this Ligue 1 season.
