OGC Nice does not start its year 2021 in the best way against Brest. Producing an unconvincing performance, Adrian Ursea’s men lose (2-0).
Despite the arrival of Saliba during the week, the defense of OGC Nice faltered. A sterile possession that did not allow them to find the breakthrough against a valiant Brest team, which, since the beginning of the season, has been offering quality play.
The start of the match for Nice was not up to par. Very early on, the Bretons dictated the tempo of the game. Benitez was tested by Faivre in the first quarter of an hour. But only nine minutes later, Steve Mounié allowed SB29 to take the lead. The second goal came quickly. Five minutes later, Frank Honorat doubled the score after a gross mistake from Lotomba. Defensive errors that cost the Aiglons dearly: “we wanted to control the game and put this Brest team in difficulty. It’s a formidable team in counterattacks. We will hold on to our ability to produce play. Because, beyond the result, there is no comparison between what we produced in our last match (against Lorient) and tonight,” explained the Nice coach after the match.
Apart from that, Gouiri was close to taking advantage of an error by Larsonneur in the 36th minute, but surprised, he failed to find the target.
In the second half, the scenario was similar. The Nice team was clumsy, with little success. Against a well-organized team, Adrian Ursea’s men could not find the necessary resources. Larsonneur even saved his team from a frantic end to the game after stopping a Gouiri attempt in the last quarter of an hour.
The Aiglons are now on a third match without success and are in 13th place in the Ligue 1 standings. A situation far from the objectives set at the beginning of the season and which is beginning to worry the captain of the evening, Morgan Schneiderlin: “Within the group, we say there is urgency. We really want to grab points very, very quickly to regain confidence because it is never good to stay in a negative spiral for so long. We must get out of it very quickly. There is really a desire to do well in training, to progress every day and to win matches, but the truth is on weekends, and for now, we are not gathering points.”
