For their first match of the year 2021, the Nice Volleyball team was defeated by Paris Volley, 3-1 (25-19; 28-30; 25-23; 25-21), at the Charpy arena. The cursed losing streak continues for Ratko Peris and his men.
A poor start for Jérôme Clère and his teammates, who failed against the capital’s club. In the postponed 8th round of the men’s Ligue A, Nice Volleyball was eager to find their way back to victory, especially after losing their last four matches, against a Paris Volley team that also experienced a challenging start to the season.
The Nice team had a complicated start to the match with the first set lost right away (25-19), even though they managed to hold their ground against the Parisians for about ten minutes (3-3; 6-4; 8-6). One set down, the Azuréens reacted immediately.
Leo Andric, impeccable in several matches and scoring 24 points this evening, sounded the revolt alongside Hector Salerno, who scored 16 points during the night. Nice Volleyball showed a better side during this second set (6-6; 14-14; 17-17) and even managed to take the lead on the scoreboard (19-22; 22-24). A tight battle ensued between the Parisians and the Niçois, with no clear advantage. Leo Andric (Nice Volleyball) responded to the attacks from Axel Truhtchev (Paris Volley). The efforts eventually paid off: the Southerners won 30-28 in a hard-fought battle, much to the displeasure of Dorian Rougeyron’s men.
Winning blocks by Rodney Ah-Kong allowed Nice to keep hope during the third set, but minor serving and attack errors benefited the Parisians, who, despite some errant blocks, gradually widened their lead (16-13; 20-16; 21-19). Even though the Niçois managed to level the score (23-23), they ultimately lost the set, 25-23.
In a match that was both interesting and rich in intensity, Ratko Peris’s Niçois eventually succumbed in the third set (25-21), marking yet another defeat. Thus, Nice Volleyball leaves the capital with another setback. This marks Nice’s 11th defeat of the season, the fifth in a row, out of 14 matches played. The Azuréens are 12th in the Ligue A rankings and will need to recover during their upcoming trip to Tourcoing in six days.
The Parisians registered their third consecutive victory and started the year 2021 in the best possible way. They will host Chaumont (6th in the rankings) next Tuesday.
