Ligue A: Nice falls short away against Chaumont

Latest News

For this new championship day, Nice Volleyball traveled this Saturday to Haute-Marne to face Chaumont. Unfortunately, despite a good start to the match, the team from Nice was defeated 3-1. This marks their fourth loss in five matches played this unusual season.

Five matches were scheduled for this 6th day of the championship. Only Nice had the chance to play in Chaumont, as all other matches were postponed for various reasons (lockdown, COVID, etc.).

Unfortunately, Nice Volleyball’s first away victory will have to wait. After securing their first home win against Poitiers this Tuesday (3-2), the Nice team was defeated again, this time 3 sets to 1 against Chaumont. Yet the men of Ratko Peris started their match in the best possible way.

Nice Volleyball displayed a serious and forceful game. Despite a response from the Chaumont team, the Nice team managed to win the first set 25 to 20. This strong start placed Jรฉrรดme Clรจre and his teammates in a leading position. But soon, the match took a different turn.

Chaumont, with many tricks up their sleeve, rallied and showed their qualities on the court. The second set ended with the same score, 25 to 20, in favor of the Chaumont team. The teams were tied (1-1).

With this tie, everything was still to play for the teams from Haute-Marne and the Alpes-Maritimes. The match continued, points accumulated, and the atmosphere became increasingly tense. Despite a solid defense and aggressive play from the Nice team, it was the Chaumont team that won, 25 to 21.

With the score in favor of the home team (2-1), Jรฉrรดme Clรจre and his partners knew they had to win the fourth set to keep any hope of victory alive in this match. That did not happen. Chaumont drove the point home and responded to Nice by winning 25 to 19. With three sets secured, victory was definitively sealed.

As with the matches against Montpellier and Tours, Nice Volleyball once again fell on the road with this same frustrating score of 3 sets to 1, although the team showed promising things throughout the game. The first away victory will have to wait for the men of Ratko Peris. For their next match, Nice, now 13th in the standings, will host Tourcoing at the Palmeira stadium (Friday, November 6 at 8:00 PM) and Chaumont, in 4th place, will travel to Paris to face the capital’s club in a week.
