The good series continues for the Eaglets, who easily qualify against a Sochaux team completely absent from this encounter. With a score of 3-0 at halftime, the game was nearly over, and all minds can now focus on the next opponent, Evian!
With a significantly reshuffled team, Claude Puel finally succeeded in his bet by securing a second victory against an opponent visibly weakened psychologically after last weekend’s defeat and their position as the bottom team in Ligue 1. It only took a quarter of an hour for Nice to score their first goal through Nemanja Pejcinovic, who crucified Cros, the Sochaux goalkeeper (1-0). The Serbian scorer, injured at the knee, immediately made way for Romain Genevois, handing over the captain’s armband to Mathieu Bodmer.
It was a winning strategy for the Nice coach, as at the half-hour mark, Genevois doubled the lead after a beautiful service from Bodmer (2-0). The Allianz Riviera could exult and breathe easy. And three minutes later, the red and black team scored a third goal with a brilliant through pass from Bosetti to Jรฉrรฉmy Pied, who left Cros no chance (3-0). The two teams could head to the locker rooms with diametrically opposed moods in each camp.
The second half might not have even been played as the rhythm and intensity had completely disappeared, with the Nice team holding strongly onto this perfect result and the Sochaux team unable to pose any danger, nor string together three consecutive passes. Bauthรฉac, cheered by the crowd, and particularly the Populaire Sud, made way for Valentin Eysseric for the last ten minutes of the game, and it was finally Alexy Bosetti who created the last opportunity, but this time the Sochaux goalkeeper had the last word. A brilliant qualification, then, for the revitalized Eaglets, buoyed by their latest victory in the championship, who will meet Nantes in the quarterfinals of the competition.
