The week was complicated for the Eagles of Nice. Three matches, three losses for the Azuréens who were outmatched in Chamonix this Sunday night.
Bad performance for the Eagles of Nice. Already defeated in Angers and then at home against Gap, the Niçois needed to bounce back tonight in Chamonix. An opponent that usually does well against the Maralpins. Except the Savoyards were coming off a strong performance in Cergy-Pontoise (1-4).
The first few minutes of the match are balanced. At home, the Pioneers set the pace at the start of the game. The different offensives remain fruitless. The second period is much more intense. The Niçois seem to physically drop a notch. Chamonix is going to quickly take advantage through Lauric Convert (1-0). A goal that won’t serve as a wake-up call for Marc-André Lévesque’s teammates. Especially since the Pioneers would go on to double their lead with another defender. Jérémie Penz beats Conrad Molder once again in goal (2-0). Stung to the quick, the Niçois finally react. But the score remains unchanged at the end of the second period.
An ineffective attack for the Eagles
The last 20 minutes of play are going to be of an entirely different caliber for the Niçois. But the course of the game remains the same. Nice pushes but cannot break through the vigilance of Tom Aubrun, voted the best of the Pioneers for the match. On the Eagles’ side, Adam Raska failed to make an impact tonight. Despite 17 attempts in the third period, it’s the Savoyards who score twice at the end of the match thanks to Jakub Izacky and Saku Kivinen. The score remains (4-0).
Poor performance in terms of standings for the Eagles, who fall behind their opponents of the night and Cergy-Pontoise. The battle for the playoffs will rage on until the end. However, Nice must quickly regroup to have any hope of qualifying. It won’t be easy with Angers visiting on Friday and a trip to Marseille to close out the year.
