The City of Nice hosts as part of the Urban Planning and Architecture Forum’s programming, with the support of EDF, an exhibition presenting the results of the fifth session of the EDF Low Carbon Architecture Competition, whose 2012 theme was “Living in a Sustainable City,” thus highlighting the crucial importance of housing and its integration into the territory.
The city of Nice and the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur place paramount importance on sustainable development, notably through an ambitious Agenda 21 that includes the recently established Metropolitan Territorial Climate Energy Plan.
For over five years now, EDF has been organizing a Low Carbon Architecture competition and has been involved with architects and urban planners to design sustainable development projects and enhance the territory’s resources.
In addition to the seven finalist projects of the 2012 EDF Low Carbon Architecture competition, the exhibition also presents recent and exemplary low carbon or energy-positive housing operations by Nice architects, as well as the environmental approach of the future Nice Méridia district, in order to place these operations within the context of a broader debate on an eco-responsible city.
The exhibition “Living in a Sustainable City” outlines the notion of sustainable development at the heart of architecture, urban planning, and territories and emphasizes the need to address the energy and environmental challenges of the coming decades.
