It’s not always easy to get children to eat fruits. However, the cooking workshops and the “One Fruit for Recess” initiative, launched by the city of Nice, seem to prove otherwise. Today, the Von Derwies school will host an event with a fruity taste.
This Thursday, the 6th at 2:30 PM, Lauriano Azinheirinha, Deputy for Education, School Catering, and After-School Activities, and Metropolitan Advisor to Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, will visit the Von Derwies school and attend a workshop organized for children around “Pan Frucha”.
About sixty kindergarten students will learn to prepare “Lo Pan Frucha,” the fruity version of the traditional Niçois Pan Bagnat, which helped Franck Viano win the Azur edition of the show “An Almost Perfect Dinner.” They will then be able to taste it for a snack.
Beforehand, the children will discover Niçois cuisine and participate in a game about traditional recipes whose names they must discover.
>> Kindergarten children in Nice are particularly sensitized to the consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Since November 2009, the city of Nice has participated in the “One Fruit for Recess” initiative launched by the Ministry of Agriculture. This involves distributing fruits, at least once a week, along with educational support: the objective is to make children aware of the benefits of a plant-rich diet, which is insufficiently consumed by children.
Furthermore, given the deficit in vegetable consumption among children, the Scientific Council of Nutrition recommended, within the framework of this initiative, to also offer vegetables. This has been the case since spring 2013. During the 2013-2014 year, this initiative affected nearly 7,500 children from 53 nursery schools, for whom 26,600 kilos of organic fruits and vegetables were served.
The fruit offered this week in participating nursery schools is pineapple, and it will be exceptionally included in the “Pan Frucha” composition.
