In a period where everyone is finding their footing after the thunderclap of Emmanuel Macron’s rise to power and his parliamentary majority, a (small) cannon shot has caught the attention of the local political scene: Philippe Soussi, a municipal, metropolitan, and departmental councilor, has left the UDI to join the En Marche movement.
Following Loรฏc Dombreval, the former mayor of Vence and now a deputy, Soussi is the second significant politician to leave the centrist party, which is a strong ally of Christian Estrosi, just as the departmental president Rudy Salles loses his parliamentary position.
A harbinger of loss of influence?
This action has reignited the debate between the Macron-compatible (Christian Estrosi) and the orthodox of the “hard” right (Eric Ciotti).
We will see if this crack is the precursor of a larger collapse or will remain an isolated case, the result of a personal choice.
For now, Philippe Soussi has been expelled from the departmental majority and has lost his delegations.
According to Eric Ciotti, “this choice makes him incompatible.”
He knows very well that the sirens are in action and that those who, for now, are dancing on two feet, will sooner or later have to choose their camp.
So, it’s best to immediately apply one of the teachings of comrade Mao: “Strike one to educate a hundred.”
