France took third place in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay.
Camille Muffat was the driving force behind women’s swimming at these Games.
Olympic champion in the 400m freestyle and silver medalist in the 200m freestyle, Camille Muffat claimed her third medal, one of each color.
The weight of the Nice club in the French medal haul continues to be significant this summer.
As for 17-year-old Charlotte Bonnet, she allows her coach Fabrice Pellerin to now count four medal-winning swimmers in London, after Yannick Agnel, Clément Lefert, and Muffat.
“We’ve believed in this relay a lot for a few years now, we’ve been waiting for a medal. We were always disappointed, finishing 4th, 5th. Now, we have our medal,” relished Muffat.
Yannick Agnel regrets the 4 hundredths that cost him a spot on the podium in the 100m.
“Four hundredths, it’s frustrating,” recognizes Yannick Agnel, who has been on the podium in his first three races. “I’m quite disappointed, especially since I thought I could do better than that.”
The statement from the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, was swift: “What the Nice swimmers have achieved in London since last Sunday is exceptional, and the bronze medal that Camille MUFFAT and Charlotte BONNET obtained in the 4x200m relay shows once again that they are great champions. They are building the legend of French swimming. And I do not want to forget to highlight Yannick AGNEL’s 4th place in the 100m.
In recent days, Nice swimming, which has already brought 6 medals to France, has allowed us to experience moments of pure magic.
I feel pride seeing these swimmers, whom we’ve watched grow over the past years in the Jean-Bouin pool, assert themselves so beautifully at the top of world sport.”
I want to once again reaffirm my total support for them in their quest for excellence alongside their club, Olympic Nice Natation, and their fantastic coach, Fabrice Pellerin.”
