The city of Nice celebrated the Assumption of the Virgin this Friday, August 15th. A look back in pictures at this celebration at the Nice port.

As every year, the city of Nice commemorates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The faithful of Nice gathered at the Notre-Dame du Port church at 6 p.m. A departure from the church to reach the quai dโ€™Entrecasteaux was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The believers arrived gradually. Just a few minutes before departure, the church was full, and some had to wait outside.ย

Led by a musical group, a procession marched along the port to reach the quai dโ€™Entrecasteaux, where the open-air mass took place starting at 7:30 p.m. During this parade, the faithful sang prayers in honor of the Virgin Mary.ย

A large crowd and numerous politicians

Before the traditional mass of August 15th, officials, including Christian Estrosi, Eric Ciotti, and Phillipe Vardon, embarked on various “pointus” (fishing boats). They made several passes along the Nice port before returning to the dock for the celebration.ย

To conclude this commemoration, Father Vincent Bottin, the parish priest of the Holy Family, presided over the mass. The cityโ€™s mayor, Christian Estrosi, could not stay for the celebration. The worshippers were able to admire the idyllic setting, with the sun gradually disappearing behind the Chรขteau hill.ย
