The day of Thursday, July 14, 2022, was dedicated to paying tribute to the 86 victims who lost their lives during the 2016 attack.
The tribute began with six cannon shots fired from the Castle Hill, symbolizing the six years that have passed since the tragedy.
Next, the memorial work “The Angel of the Bay” by Jean-Marie Fondacaro was unveiled during a poignant ceremony in which we were moved by the words and passionate speeches from the victims’ representatives.
In tribute to the victims, this 4-meter tall sculpture was placed at the very spot where the truck driven by the terrorist came to a halt that evening. It represents “a great wave of 2.5 meters that crashes like a breaker onto the heart it contains, on which are inscribed the names of the 86 victims.” At the top of the wave is a bird-man called Angel in homage to the victims.
At around 6 PM, a republican parade took place, followed by a concert by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra at 9 PM in the Albert-1st garden on the stage of the Nice Jazz Festival.
The evening concluded with the projection of 86 beams of light converging in the sky at 10:34 PM, on the Promenade des Anglais, with the background music “Les feux d’artifices” by Calogero.
