Loudly proclaim: stop homophobic and transphobic violence!

May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

A public gathering at 6:15 PM at Place Garibaldi is organized by the LGBT Center Côte d’Azur, which will notably offer the opportunity to meet Yacine Djebelnouar, co-president of the association Shams-France, which helps and supports LGBT individuals from North Africa and the Middle East living in France.

In cooperation with its member associations and several LGBT venues in Nice, the LGBT Center Côte d’Azur aims to raise awareness more than ever.

“We collectively wish to reaffirm our strong and enthusiastic commitment to uphold the values of progress and equality and to work so that everyone, in Nice, in France, and around the world, can live their lives, loves, and bodies in complete freedom,” is the plea the association makes on this symbolic day.

Solidarity drinks or parties will be held at the bars Le Red Kafé and Le Malabar, and at the nightclub Le Glam. These events will help raise funds to support the work of the Shams association and to financially assist the Russian LGBT Network, a partner of the LGBT Center Côte d’Azur, which organizes the protection and extraction of persecuted Chechen homosexuals.
