A new episode has just been added to the “petty squabble” between the regional majority of Christian Estrosi and his opposition. It seems every opportunity is good for bickering.
On Saturday afternoon, during a meeting of Marion Marรฉchal Le Pen (in the presence of Marine Le Pen) near Carpentras, a stand was selling promotional items of the Region.
The “scandal” was spotted by a resident (a keen observer) who had the violation recorded by a bailiff. The incident was then relayed by Paul-Pierre Leonelli, who announced that he would report it to the PACA Region’s ethics commissioner: โ@PPLeonelli July 9: On Monday, I will report to the ethics commissioner. The FN illegally sells goodies from the @regionpaca during the #BBRGrandSud. More than a legal issue, it’s a matter of respect for the institution, our fellow citizens, and their dignity.
Other sources indicate that the entourage of Christian Estrosi, “dumbfounded to see the region’s image associated with that of the National Front,” intends to take legal action for illegal sale.
On the FN’s side, they downplay the incident as “a mere error committed by an inexperienced volunteer” โ says Lionel Tivoli, departmental secretary for the Alpes-Maritimes, arguing the insignificance of the market value. “The Alpes-Maritimes federation assumes this mistake made by an inexperienced volunteer while regretting the unnecessary controversy that some have tried to fuel.” he stated in a press release.
True or false, we can only note that the so-called “resident” was responsive and very organized. One wonders if she was there casually? Usually, activists or supporters are happy to support the good cause, whereas this one dashed off to find a bailiff!
In conclusion: politics, in the noble sense of the word, is something else entirely.
Not sure if voters will appreciate this? And then they wonder why people are no longer motivated to go vote. Given the level of debate and the methods used, are they entirely wrong?
