Three Nice contemporary art venues provide an idea of the scope of the artist’s work, both in terms of the space occupied and in the depth of meaning his works have acquired. Most of the pieces shown were specifically created for the exhibition.
The work of Luca Pignatelli is steeped in a strong Italian culture filled with ancient, medieval, Renaissance, and modern elements. It unfurls its roots through images, constantly playing on the thread of memory; it acts as a conductive body, making us traverse the present to join layers of the past, more or less legendary. The works of Luca Pignatellli present images that are not present but have been. They offer a vision between erasure and persistence. The painting appears worn, flaked by the multiple accidents of time passing.
