As part of its summer music programming, the city has chosen to promote Blues music. Consequently, Lucky Peterson will perform at the Cimiez Arenas on Friday, June 16 at 9 p.m., with Ana Popovic as his opening act.
A worthy heir to B.B. King, Lucky Peterson is currently regarded as one of the masters of Blues, enjoying international fame. He excels in three roles: as a guitarist, a singer, and a keyboard player.
He possesses a natural musical gift, having been immersed in the twelve-bar blues from a young age, thanks largely to his father who was a blues singer and owner of the famous Governor’s Inn club in Buffalo. It was here that numerous blues musicians, including Willie Dixon who produced his first single “1, 2, 3, 4”, passed through. Lucky Peterson was only 5 years old at the time but already displayed remarkable talent.
As a teenager, he demonstrated a knack for musical arrangements; he was called upon to accompany Little Milton, BB King, or Albert Collins on stage.
In the 1980s, thanks to his natural charisma, he was considered one of the new talents of blues, ready to take over the mantle.
However, he would not allow himself to be constrained by traditional limits, continually collaborating with artists like Mavis Staples and Bootsy Collins, pushing the boundaries of blues to better rejuvenate the genre with all his energy. With Lucky Peterson, the blues is both explosive and soothing.
