LuckyMike, a passion in strokes of the pencil

Latest News

Michel Pelini is 25 years old and has been drawing since primary school. A composed and calm young man, the pencil has allowed him from a very young age to express his inner feelings: “It was a way to express myself, a passion. For some, it’s sports; for me, it’s drawing,” he explains simply. In everyday life, Michel Pelini is a technician alchemist in Carros. He dons the mask of LuckyMike once work is finished in the evening and on weekends. It’s not the mask of a masked avenger. He just wants to make people laugh and smile. Without sarcasm or malice, on his blog, he describes his life, caricatures his work, his thoughts, and exaggerates the character traits of people he encounters. A blog is an indispensable tool for these young illustrators and comic book artists. Many are flourishing, and Luckymike has had his for over a year. “You have to be present on the Internet to get known, to go from forum to forum, but I don’t have the time. My blog is less visited than others. When I get home from work, I’d rather draw than spend hours on websites,” notes Michel.

Like any passionate person, caught between utopia and ambition, Michel dreams of living from his pencil strokes. With his head firmly on his shoulders, he knows it will be difficult, and talent is not always enough. He has submitted comic strips to publishers but so far without success. Michel, during the comic festival in Juan les Pins, met Belgian artist Serge Ernst. They made contact. Michel sent him some of his sketches: “He took the time to critique each of my drawings to help me improve.” An important and useful assistance to progress, as well as the desire to improve and never shy away from a problem.

Through self-denial and perseverance, LuckyMike will emerge among the considerable stream of illustrators. One must carve out a niche and think about how to achieve it: “Many think that by staying free, they will succeed without changing their creations. I am willing to develop a slightly more commercial project to interest the maximum number of people. Once known, I could return to slightly more personal drawings.”

Michel, also known as LuckyMike, will collaborate with the editorial staff of Nice-Premiรจre. He will provide a drawing published on the front page on Sunday to illustrate the most important news story covered during the week and a drawing on Monday to illuminate Jean-Luc Vannier’s editorial.
