A 18th edition that aims, despite all the uncertainties, to happily and fully illustrate the bonds woven by history between Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste.
A program that strives, despite the challenges, both temporary and enduring, to reflect the various societies traversing the Lusophone space.
Let’s start with the trilogy by Miguel Gomes, which is a reinterpretation of the One Thousand and One Nights in light of recent events in Portugal that led to a change of majority. A trilogy that will feature a distinguished guest to honor this program.
Then Brazil will have a strong presence with the film selected for youth animation, “Trash” by Stephen Daldry and Christian Duurvoort, with the collaboration of teachers from the International Portuguese Section of Nice, as well as “August Winds” directed by Gabriel Mascaro.
Africa will also be represented with a Luso-Guinean film “The Thorns of the Rose,” a film still unreleased in France where we will be fortunate to have the presence of the director. To complete this program, a Luso-Franco-Swiss comedy that will take us back to the great moments of the Carnation Revolution through laughter.
And then, a Lusophone Cinema Week also always includes music with the presence, on launch day, of local folkloric groups representing Portugal and Cape Verde, as well as a concert this Saturday at the Espace Laure Ecard in Saint-Roch, with a confirmed talent, Vitorino Rodrigues, a Cape Verdean who knows Nice well and has been delighting us with his expertise for years.
