Madame Suzanne Nucéra donates her husband Louis’s archives to the city of Nice: a gesture that brings her honor!

Latest News

Madame Suzanne Nucéra had expressed her intention to entrust her husband Louis Nucéra’s archives to the City of Nice for their preservation and consultation. This intention has now been realized following the signing of the notarial deed formalizing the inventory of the donation by Louis and Suzanne Nucéra to the City of Nice.

This donation finds its perfect place among the memories of Romain Gary and the papers of Michel Butor in the City’s heritage library.

“Suzanne Nucéra, in the true spirit of Louis, thus demonstrates that her soul and heart are deeply tied to our City,” said the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, during the ceremony.

For Louis, Suzanne was not only his beloved wife but also his muse, his inspiration, his companion at all times, and also his collaborator, as she tirelessly wrote, typed, and organized the mountains of documents.

A magnificent gift to the City of Nice, considering there have seldom been any writers or individuals whose life and work have so completely blended into a tribute to their city.

A donation formalized by a Municipal Council resolution on March 29, 2012, which will be preserved at the Louis Nucéra Library in a memorial space and will bear the name “Louis and Suzanne Nucéra Fund.”

One of the most significant donations received to date by the City of Nice. This type of donation is likely one of the last to be received by libraries, as it pertains to a writer from the past century, prior to the digital revolution: indeed, everything is handwritten or typed by Madame Suzanne.

This donation will enable the preservation, study, and transmission of a unique work in our local heritage.

It encompasses works and documentation concerning Louis Nucéra, as well as works by his friends (Kessel, Gary, Druon, Brassens, Villers, a great photographer of Picasso,…) not to mention his love for music and French chanson in particular.

Including, among others:

– 22 manuscripts of his novels, along with corresponding press kits compiled by Louis Nucéra
– 7 typescripts (texts typed on the machine) of articles, mainly on sports
– 24 documentary files for the preparation of books, articles
– numerous documentary files on sports, particularly cycling
– his archives as a journalist and press attaché
– 10 files on the various awards and decorations granted to Louis Nucéra
– 163 books, mostly signed by their authors such as Joseph Kessel, Romain Gary, Maurice Druon, François Botte, Alphonse Boudard
– his correspondences, maintained, among others, with Joseph Kessel, Maurice Druon, Michel Déon, Jean Cocteau (who wrote him: “You have bewitched me with your kindness”)
– numerous photographs of artists and athletes
– over 250 LP records.
