The schools of Nice got a new look in 2024. The city announced that it had completed more than 460 projects and refurbishments. These works are ongoing during the end-of-year holidays and will continue with an increased budget planned for 2025.
In 2024, Nice invested more than 8.9 million euros in its public schools. A total of 460 projects were carried out, along with 8,300 routine operations performed by school workshop staff. All of this was done to meet the safety, comfort, and maintenance needs of the institutions.
For the December holidays, 18 new renovation and refurbishment operations were scheduled. Among them, the securing of the schools Paule d’Essling and Jules Verne. The replacement of fixtures at the Ventabrun school and the installation of ceiling fans in the Saint Roch school group represents an investment of nearly 243,000 euros.
An Increased Budget for 2025
Christian Estrosi announced a 40% increase in funds allocated to education for 2025. He emphasized that the study comfort of students and the working conditions of staff are essential. The investments are there to meet energy and climate challenges while modernizing equipment.
The priorities for the 2025 budget include energy renovation. The goal is to reduce heat losses and energy consumption with expected savings ranging from 10 to 20% depending on the institution. Improving acoustic comfort will also be considered with more than 250,000 euros allocated to dining areas. Additionally, greening schoolyards to reduce heat islands and lower perceived temperatures by nearly 10 degrees in summer is planned. Finally, the digital plan aims to equip schools with modern equipment and involves the creation and restructuring of school groups, with several projects underway, particularly in Saint-Isidore and the Comptoir Métallurgique du Littoral.
The creation of a new school restaurant, which will be delivered to Les Magnolias school for the 2025 school year, is also noteworthy. All these endeavors aim to provide an environment tailored to the students’ and staff’s needs. Despite a nationwide decline in this area, Nice is making efforts.
