Probable departmental list leader for the FN in the upcoming regional elections, Marc-André Doumergue is expected to be the future “head” of the Alpes-Maritimes federation for Marine Le Pen’s party.
A newcomer to politics, more a supporter of Marine Le Pen than the Front National, elected to the Nice municipal council and metropolitan area, he was a (defeated) candidate in the last departmental elections, representing a new generation of political leaders.
He remained loyal to Marie-Christine Arnautu during the split of the FN municipal group and the near-total exodus of its members into an independent group.
The European MP, who only comes to Nice for formal obligations (council sessions), will keep her seat in the elective bodies, but it will be the former sports manager who will coach the significantly renewed and rejuvenated Front National ranks in the future.
So, no internal crises or coup d’état but a simple organizational change and, perhaps, said with the utmost respect for Madam Arnautu, a generational shift.
The formal acts of this handover are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
