Marc Concas supports Ségolène Royal.

He was known as a General Counselor, a prominent lawyer of the Nice bar association, and also a musician in his spare time. Now, Marc Concas is positioning himself as a promoter for the potential candidacy of Ségolène Royal in the next presidential election.

After Michel Vauzelle, the President of the PACA Region, it’s a new southern ally who is joining the ranks of the one who seems to be the ideal candidate of a “made in Ségolène” Socialist Party.

So, the “Royal” route or a Via Crucis for the President of the Poitou-Charentes Region?

Nice Première: What do you think of the candidate Ségolène Royal?

Marc Concas: She is the best socialist candidate for the 2007 presidential election.

Her youth, skills, combativeness, and open-mindedness are her major strengths.

NP: Attacks against her are flourishing within the PS. What is your view on this?

MC: These attacks were predictable, from the moment Ségolène ROYAL entered the internal competition within the PS.

I would have liked a bit more elegance.

NP: The internet seems to be an important communication channel for Mrs. Royal. Do you think the web will play a part in the next presidential elections?

MC: Only partly.

The presidential election campaign primarily favors the image and speeches of the candidates, naturally carried by television and the press.

However, I note, with pleasure, the immense success of Ségolène Royal’s blog named “desires for the future,” which shows that she also wanted to prioritize this communication channel.

She does it in an original way since she gives the voice to internet users and feeds on interactive reflection to construct her project.

NP: Dominique Voynet said “She has a judgment on women that is not that of a feminist.” Agree or disagree with this statement?

MC: That’s a strange statement.

For me, being a feminist means fighting for equal rights between men and women.

I claim, for my part, the status of “feminist.”

Through her skills, the sincerity of her commitment, and her positions, Ségolène Royal leads this fight daily. She is the best ambassador for women’s cause.

NP: 143 rebels denounce a “celebritization” of Ségolène Royal’s politics. As Coluche would have said, “which side are you on, comrade”?

MC: The fight of the 143 rebels is just as long as they enroll, like me, in a logic of refusing a “starified” political life.

What is unfair is to hold Ségolène Royal responsible for this state of affairs. The media chase after her because they find the character interesting in various respects.

Fortunately, with the exception of Paris-Match, the vast majority of the media covering Ségolène Royal are as serious as l’Express, le Point, le Nouvel Obs, and the economic magazine Challenges.

Among the 143 rebels, who would refuse an interview with these weeklies?

NP: Several Regional Presidents support candidate Royal. Do you think these opinions express a real need for changes within the PS?

MC: Yes, obviously, and the support of the Regional Presidents towards Ségolène Royal demonstrates the credibility of her candidacy.

This support should significantly contribute to convincing the socialist militants to vote for her at the end of the year.

These supports are going to amplify in the upcoming weeks.

NP: Finally, do you imagine a female President of the French Republic in the future?

MC: I do not imagine it.

I hope for it.
