March at the Museums in the starting blocks with a renewed edition

Latest News

The eleventh edition of “Mars aux Musรฉes” will take place from March 5 to 30, 2012, in Nice. Since its inception in 2001, the “Mars aux Musรฉes” adventure has already attracted over 150,000 visitors.

mars_musees.jpg From Villa Massรฉna to MAMAC, including the Museum of Naive Art and the National Theatre of Nice, this unique event in France invites students to discover or rediscover around twenty cultural sites in Nice.

Open to all, “Mars aux Musรฉes” remains primarily a cultural event dedicated to students. It results from a partnership between the students of the MICA association, the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, and the City of Nice.

The students of the MICA association participate in developing the event’s program in close collaboration with the cultural projects of the museums hosting them. The University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and the City of Nice, by providing their human resources and cultural establishments for this event, thus fulfill their educational missions and provide access to culture for everyone.

Seeking renewal, “Mars aux Musรฉes” will be themed under the sign of contrast this year!

A month to encounter art

March will be punctuated by original mediations, night openings, and off-site university classes. Starting from March 5, the day of the inauguration at Palais Lascaris, and throughout the four weeks, let yourself be surprised by the program designed by students, mixing music, theater, dance, and many other artistic experiments. On March 30, at the Saint-Jean d’Angรฉly campus, a series of concerts highlighting students will close this cultural rendezvous.

Contrast-and-you!

For its 11th edition, “Mars aux Musรฉes” continues to contribute to cultural democratization by addressing students and young people under 26. And this year again, the event is being renewed…

Indeed, with free museum entry for everyone, it is necessary to offer a new concept entirely dedicated to students who expect more from our event than just an entry ticket. The challenge is to surprise in order to encourage return visits!

This dynamic, created by students for students, challenges the very idea of a “cultural event.” Throughout these four weeks, from March 5 to 30, 2012, this unique event in France promotes the meeting between museum collections and the city’s students.

This year, “contrast” will be the guiding principle of “Mars aux Musรฉes.” This theme perfectly fits the spirit of MaM, which organizes unprecedented and atypical events within partner institutions. The contrast is in tune with the polysemic dimension of contemporary culture, which, to be more attractive, constantly renews its ways of presenting to the public.

The blends of “contemporary art/science” or “street art/academic art” are increasingly common so that students can meet and enjoy the cultural diversity offered by the museums of the City of Nice.

The new features of the 2012 edition include expanding to other locations like the Bonnard Museum in Le Cannet and the Space of Concrete Art in Mouans-Sartoux, an international approach thanks to a partnership with the ESN (Erasmus Student Network), as well as an ecological orientation with the use of deposit cups or the offering of organic buffets.
