The day of the handover has arrived. This morning, the Municipal Council will elect the former first deputy, Philippe Pradal, as the mayor of Nice in place of Christian Estrosi, who will leave the mayor’s seat of the city to become… the first deputy!
This game of chairs, not exactly musical, is worthy of a true “commedia dell’arte”: it suggests a decorative facade behind which Christian Estrosi will continue to wield the real power.
Moreover, the headquarters of the Metropolis has been moved to the town hall, which will allow the soon-to-be former mayor to keep his current office: the showcase must always be exemplary.
To comment on this unusual move, even if mandatory, Christian Estrosi, who has marked his years as mayor with frenetic activism, invoked the image of a tandem bicycle to explain and reassure that his successor and he will pedal in the same direction, but more importantly, wheel to wheel.
An unprecedented team effort and duo that will, however, have to be careful not to risk a common fall…
