The young 29-year-old woman from Nice, the only candidate, received 69.69% of the votes. A total of 3,441 voters participated in this online election, resulting in a turnout of 22.90%.
Looking at the numbers, it’s not really a model of participatory democracy nor a broad plebiscite. Additionally, the blogosphere is reigniting suspicions of irregularities in the procedures and/or non-compliance with the electoral regulations. Are these insights or misinformation from opponents or even rejected candidates?
The fact remains that the young protégé of Christian Estrosi, who did not shy away from publicly displaying his support for the Nice elected official, is making a significant step (and what a step!) towards a promising political career.
A future deputy in 2017 when Christian Estrosi will no longer be able to run due to the limitation on holding multiple offices? The clues are clear: is Marine not already a departmental councilor for a canton that partially covers the electoral district of the President?
Another one who is going to stir up envy!
Marine Brenier was the sole candidate for the presidency of the Young Republicans, the youth wing of the right-wing party. She was at the head of a unity list that gathered all the factions of the party. Therefore, it was not a big surprise that Brenier was elected last night as the president of the Young Republicans.
Her competitors could not meet the stringent requirements to run for the position, with the party leadership preferring a unity list that included all the factions from Rue de Vaugirard.
Marine Brenier and Geoffrey Carvalhinho, the number two on the list and thus the future secretary-general of the movement, represent the Sarkozy faction (and she, in particular, Christian Estrosi, as she is deputy mayor of Nice), while the list is completed by Antoine Sillani (for Xavier Bertrand), Paul Guyot (for Bruno Le Maire), Pierre Liscia (for François Fillon), and Thomas Khaski (for Alain Juppé).
