From Friday, July 15th to Sunday, July 17th at the Forum Jacques Médecin (Free entry)
To wrap up this second week of Masséna 100% Sport, it’s time for Open Foot Volley to take center stage in the arena!
Foot Volley, a very spectacular and “fun” sport, has become a must-see since last summer on French beaches. This highly engaging sport, which pits two teams of two players against each other on a sand court, continues to grow. While Foot Volley has a relaxed vibe due to the environment in which it is played, it remains a true competitive sport that requires great physical and technical skills.
Being the missing link between Beach Volleyball and Beach Soccer, Foot Volley requires skill, finesse, and patience for maximum enjoyment.
It originated in Brazil, on the legendary Copacabana beach in the 1950s, when football players who could no longer play on the beach decided to play on a beach volleyball court.
Arriving in France in the early 1980s, it sparked genuine enthusiasm, leading to the creation of the French Foot Volley Federation in 1993. Today, the football federation manages Foot Volley through diversified football. This emerging sport will be showcased at the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London.
For the second edition, this tournament is organized by the “Nice Foot Volley” association, founded by former OGC Nice player Jérôme Calatraba and co-chaired by Jean-Philippe Mattio.
This year, it will see several of the world’s best teams compete: Portugal, Italy, Israel, Switzerland, Belgium, and more.
Starting Wednesday, a raffle will be organized to benefit the CékeDuBonheur association, which aims to improve the quality of life for hospitalized children.
Representing the association, Rio Mavuba, the group I Am, and Kenza Farah will be at Place Masséna for a signing session.
The Open Master Moorea is a tribute to the Juan-les-Pins beach where Foot Volley landed in France in 1985, thanks to the iconic boss Dédé, who imported this sport from Brazil.
