On the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the victory of May 8, 1945, Adolphe Colrat, Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Eric Ciotti, Deputy, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, and Colonel Jean-Pierre Bedu, Departmental Military Delegate of Alpes-Maritimes, will celebrate the victory of the Allies and the end of World War II.
History of May 8:
On May 7, 1945, at 2:41 a.m., the act of German surrender was signed in Reims. Hostilities were to cease on May 8 at 11:01 p.m. The news was officially announced on May 8 at 3 p.m.
The next day, May 9, at 12:16 a.m., the general surrender was signed in Berlin.
May 8 thus remains a highly symbolic date.

10:00 a.m.: Laying of wreaths, Place du 8 Mai.
10:15 a.m.: Departure of the procession to the Monument aux Morts.
10:25 a.m.: Arrival of the procession at the Monument aux Morts.
10:30 a.m.: Beginning of the ceremony. Salute to the flag by the authorities. Award of decorations. Reading of messages. Laying of wreaths.
