Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, reacted on Monday evening to the speech delivered by the President of the Republic. The roadmap outlined by the head of state is, according to him, directly addressed to local elected officials, who are on the front lines in dealing with the issues faced by the French people.
“This evening, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, outlined a roadmap to overcome the social crisis in which the country finds itself,” reacted Christian Estrosi after the televised address by the President of the Republic. The social crisis is also democratic. This conflictual climate, caused by his pension reform and adding to the inflationary crisis, has been going on for three months.
Emmanuel Macron spoke during a closely watched intervention. In a context where the dialogue between the French people and the government has been undermined, he had not yet addressed his fellow citizens directly, preferring to avoid crowd-bathing. During his speech, everywhere in France and also in Nice, casserole concerts could be heard.
Christian Estrosi, mobilized “to make these 100 days a success”
The head of state does not concede anything on pensions and regrets that the reform he deems “necessary” was not “accepted,” preferring to turn towards the future. 100 days to revive his five-year term is what he has set for himself. “Through the three projects he has outlined around the value of work, the authority of the state, and the school, all the active forces of the nation must mobilize and be widely involved to make these 100 days a success,” shares Christian Estrosi. The mayor believes that mayors, local elected officials, “have a major role to play” due to their proximity and daily contact with the French people.
“Indeed, they are the elected officials to whom our fellow citizens turn when the country gets bogged down. The words of confidence from the President of the Republic towards the local authorities must lead to entrusting them with the decentralized implementation of this roadmap, wherever their action can be more effective than that of the state and whenever they are candidates for an experimentation,” he concludes.
