The online newspaper Mediapart, whose “expertise” in disseminating information on political scandals is well established, published an article a few days ago titled “HLM on the Côte d’Azur: a dirty business at the heart of the Estrosi kingdom,” which reported on an ongoing judicial investigation.
These accusations were immediately refuted by Côte d’Azur Habitat and Christian Estrosi. When questioned about this by the local newspaper, Christian Estrosi strongly criticized the article, calling it a “political pamphlet.” Finally, the chief magistrate stated that he was not aware of any ongoing judicial investigation on this matter, which, upon verification, turned out to be quite accurate.
However, this denunciation article did not escape the interest of Olivier Bettati (also a candidate for the mayor of Nice, a former ally turned sworn enemy of Christian Estrosi).
This led to the request from the municipal group “My party is Nice,” led by Olivier BETTATI, to the Deputy Mayor of Nice to “immediately involve the General Inspection of the City of Nice services regarding the operating conditions of the HLM organization.
The municipal group also demands the appointment of an external expert cabinet to the City to conduct an audit on the current organization and results of Côte d’Azur Habitat.”
While waiting for any developments, if any, we feel entitled to reflect on the political and moral significance of these increasingly frequent acts. We started with the construction permit for Olivier Bettati’s villa, continued with Benoît Kandel’s management at Semiacs, moved on to the defective water quality of the Promenade du Paillon, the relations of the Bygmalion company with Olivier Bettati, and now we come to Côte d’Azur Habitat, the city’s social landlord (already heavily criticized for supposed opacity in housing allocation procedures).
While avoiding mixing genres, too many indications could call into doubt the randomness of some of these events. Therefore, we will leave it there to avoid falling into the same realm of suspicion as those we denounce.
On the other hand, if the election campaign could remain on the path of project and personnel confrontation, it would be much better for the democratic spirit, which must always prevail.
