The association Unis-Cité has established “Les Médiaterre,” a significant civic service mission assigned to young volunteers, which aims to support the most modest families in combating energy poverty.
Since October 2015, based in the heart of the Moulins, Ariane, and Nice Paillon neighborhoods, 10 young Médiaterre volunteers offer families sustained, in-home support.
They assist them in adopting good habits that allow them to both make a gesture for the planet and achieve real savings: turning off standby electrical appliances, reducing waste, and eating seasonal produce.
In the last three weeks, the young Médiaterre volunteers set up a challenge with 9 families to help them save as much as possible over one week, supported by meter readings.
At the end of this challenge, the most engaged families received a prize from the Schneider Electric Foundation, a partner of the Unis-Cité association.
Nationally, nearly 400 young Médiaterre volunteers are working in the neighborhoods of 40 cities in France this year.
