Meeting with Miss Côte d’Azur

Nice Premium met with Miss Côte d’Azur Valeria Pavelin at the Martinez Hotel in Cannes. It was an opportunity to learn more about her. Miss France will be broadcast on December 11 on TF1.

Valeria Pavelin is happy to represent the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, and more specifically the Côte d’Azur at the Miss France pageant. “It’s an honor and a pride. It’s the experience of my life. It’s incredible what’s happening for me. It’s such an honor for me to represent the most beautiful region of France that I am at a loss for words. I can’t explain how honored I am to have received this title, barely two weeks ago.” The pageants are progressing for her, as she was one of the last regional misses to be elected, and she will now head to Miss France.

Who dares nothing gains nothing

Miss Côte d’Azur embarked on this adventure by first entering the local contest. She saw an ad on Instagram, seeking young women for Miss Mandelieu. She decided to give it a try, thinking, “We’ll see how it goes.” She was right, as she is now Miss Côte d’Azur, even though she didn’t expect it.

Becoming Miss France, a childhood dream

She is realizing a longtime dream. “All girls dream of being Miss France since they are six years old.” She dreamed of it, and she made it happen. For her, it goes beyond a beauty contest. “It’s not even an elegance or beauty contest for me. It’s the opportunity to defend causes close to our hearts, on a larger scale, thanks to our notoriety.”

The grand departure

The contestants are set to embark on an adventure, first to Paris, then to the island of La Réunion, for the annual official trip. Valeria is very excited. “I can’t wait to discover the island of La Réunion, meet the other candidates, and do photo shoots by the water. We’ll have a paradise-like setting.” It’s a stroke of luck in November.

She hasn’t always been so popular

Contrary to what one might think, beauty queens too have faced criticism in the past but have brilliantly risen above it. Being called “ugly duckling” shaped the character of the girl from the Côte d’Azur. “For me, everyone evolves at their own pace. Everyone blooms like a rose. Everyone goes through a period where they are perhaps not at their physical best. In the end, everyone evolves and grows beautifully.”

Sports

She has competed in high-level sports. This is helpful in the current competition, along with her demanding medical studies. “It required a lot of discipline, precision, and ambition from me. It’s all positive for Miss France because it allows me not to give up on what I have in mind, to go all in to succeed.”

The causes she supports

Due to her studies, Miss Côte d’Azur wishes to primarily raise awareness among the population about the medical field and personal care. “I will be very able to explain everything regarding medical and health matters since it’s what I’ve been working on for years.” She worked in the hospital when she was a medical extern. She helped many associations. “We touch upon everything, so I have been in oncology. I’ve already worked on everything related to transplants, blood with the EFS (Établissement français du sang). I’ve already seen all that through my studies.”

If she can, she will also defend other causes. “I want to advocate for as many things that matter to me as possible.” During her last election, she talked about animals. “When I was little, I was always surrounded by animals. We’ve had dogs, cats, horses. You can have a relationship with an animal that’s as strong as with a human being. There is no need for explanations. An animal doesn’t speak, but it’s a ball of love. Apart from making you smile, it can’t do anything else to you. That’s why I would like to defend this cause because for me it’s as important as a human being.”

Her studies

Valeria Pavelin is a dental student, training to become a dental surgeon. “I like everything about this profession. During my five years of medical school, I really enjoyed the traumatology department, surgery, and manual work.” She wondered how to combine the desire to help others with the manual aspect she enjoys in surgery, without the “crude side of restorative or trauma surgery.” She was looking for something more meticulous because she plays the piano and paints. “I’m fairly adept with my fingers. I did an internship with a dentist, and I realized I really liked it.” Since she started learning this profession, she loves it all. “It’s micro-precision surgery. It fits me best.”

Former pageant winners are inspiring

Iris Mittenaere (Miss Universe 2016) was also a dental student. A parallel can thus be drawn between the two pageant winners. “She inspires all of us, so of course, she inspires me. When I think of her, I imagine it might be me. If I could have her career, what more could I ask for?”

Marine Lorphelin, who continued her medical studies after her coronation, is an example for her. “She uses her title to convey important information.” Valeria shares the values and causes that Miss France 2013 supports. She plans to continue her studies, even if she is elected Miss France. The dean of the faculty was the first person she contacted when she was crowned Miss Côte d’Azur. “I contacted her directly because my studies are very important to me. She told me there would be no problem resuming them afterward. This adventure is lived once, so if I have the incredible chance of becoming Miss France, I will, of course, put my studies on hold. I will live it to the fullest and then resume. I don’t want to do things halfway.”

A family affair

Her sister was already Miss Côte d’Azur in 2016, before unfortunately stepping down for personal reasons. It saddened her, but she believes she had “her own path to follow.” “I think in life everything happens for a reason. If she stopped, maybe it was a good way for Jade, who took over, to also experience an extraordinary adventure. I think she was very happy to participate, so I see no downside. Each did what was best for them, so it’s perfect.”

Maria gave her “the best advice”, which everyone gives her, to stay herself. “To be natural, spontaneous as I am. In any case, I can only be authentic, as it truly is a character trait that defines me. She mainly advised me not to overthink things, to live things to the fullest, and to be as simple and natural as possible.”

This competition brought her the friendship of Eva Navarro, Miss Provence. Together, they form a beautiful duo. Thanks to one of them, a southern girl might finally become Miss France. That’s all Nice Premium wishes for them.
