Rudy Salles, Deputy Mayor of Nice, delegated for Tourism and International Relations, will receive, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Main City Hall, António Jesus Lima, chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Cape Verde in France, as well as Maria Andrade and Alfonso Sirmino Gomes, who represent the honorary consulate.
The purpose of this meeting is to emphasize the significant growth of the Cape Verdean community in recent years. A growth that would warrant the adaptation of the material resources available to the honorary consulate and its organization (about 7,000 Cape Verdeans reside in the Alpes-Maritimes).
Additionally, this meeting will serve to recall the ties between Nice and Cape Verde and to address new avenues of work taking this evolution into account.
In May 2010, during the Africa-France Summit held in Nice, Christian Estrosi met with an official delegation from Cape Verde, including the Cape Verdean Prime Minister and the Cape Verdean community residing in Nice.
A regular political dialogue has been established between France and Cape Verde, with the two countries maintaining especially cooperation relations in terms of development. Cape Verde belongs to a largely Francophone geographical and economic area.
