The exhibition “Robinson, or the Force of Things” brings together these three artists from the Supports/Surfaces group who have maintained a special connection with the Nice region. The encounters and exhibitions held in the area remain fundamental to their artistic journeys. MAMAC felt it was essential to revisit their respective practices.

This exhibition, which will run from January 28 to May 27, 2012, highlights the shared preference among the three artists for objects considered poor or trivial and revolves around elementary gestures: the collection, gathering, and assembling of precarious or ordinary objects, the use of rudimentary tools and techniques akin to DIY or handmade practices.

The focus will be on the fact that the processes of deconstructing painting initiated by the artists in the mid-sixties, and extended through their work on objects, are akin to the attitudes of the character Robinson, as shaped by Michel Tournier in “Friday, or the Other Island” (1967).
