Jean-Luc Mélenchon is known for his outspoken nature… but the numbers quickly climb with him as well. Never one to shy away from grandiloquence, he hopes for one to two million people at this “popular tide” to say no to Macron’s austerity policy.
The leader of France Insoumise continues to bet on street protests against the head of state. This strategy of the people has its advantages for the Marseille deputy: it allows him to remain the number 1 opponent, with a Socialist Party in disarray and Republicans silenced by Macron’s right-leaning policy.
“Contrary to what is being said, the social movement has not been disarmed,” proclaims Mélenchon, who has involved the CGT in this political-union-association demonstration, even though it usually prefers to keep its distance. Such “gazelle discretion” will be put aside tomorrow.
However, there are many risks for the chief Insoumis and his troops, who dream of a “shock wave”… at the risk of a flop: setting the bar too high is often a sure way to get knocked down.
About thirty organizations, political parties, and unions are calling for a citizen rally “against Macron’s reactionary and liberal policy.”
The procession will start at 2:30 PM from Thiers train station in Nice. The destination is Garibaldi Square via Jean-Médecin and Masséna Avenue.
