At the Palais de l’Europe, the exhibition “Take a seat at the table!” allows one to rediscover the history of Menton’s restaurants and refreshment stands, from the birth of “winter tourism” to the 1930s. Visitors are delighted to discover or rediscover all these old practices amidst luxurious tables, beautiful palace restaurants, and incredible quantities of products.

For those with a sweet tooth and a love for citrus, the Herbin Jam Factory opens the doors to its workshop with a tasting animation, revealing a few manufacturing secrets to visitors…

Jam makers for 36 years, Jean-Claude and Nicole Bineau were awarded the title of Master Artisan Jam Makers three years ago. Proud of their city and their craft, these fruit enthusiasts offer a range of 120 different types of jams, from classic flavors—strawberry, apple, bitter orange, lemon—to more sophisticated blends. Among these are: strawberry-basil, dark chocolate-bitter orange, fig-hazelnut, mimosa, rose petals, violet petals, lemon-eucalyptus, or even mandarin-white chocolate. Something to delight all connoisseurs!

Finally, one cannot speak of Menton Gastronomy Week without mentioning the renowned “Garden of the Princes of Monaco.” Located at the Palais Carnolès of Menton—the former summer residence of Prince Antoine I of Monaco dating from the 17th century—this garden was designed in the spirit of the Grand Trianon of Versailles, dear to Marie-Antoinette’s heart.

Last year, as part of the commemorations of the 150th anniversary of Menton’s attachment to France, the municipality aimed to revive the splendor of the Palais Carnolès garden by creating the Garden of the Princes on the site.

In a botanical setting protected from the humidity of Menton’s climate by the shade of surrounding buildings, hundreds of vegetables from various present and past varieties have been planted, accompanying the citrus and sculptures of the garden. With a multitude of pepper species, tomato varieties, and even surprising artichokes, the garden inspires visitors for the arrangement of their own gardens.

And while the Garden of the Princes stands out for its remarkable collection of citrus trees, offering pleasant strolls, it also attracts attention for being organic. A system of composting and mulching using cocoa bark, flax, or wheat allows for the ingenious elimination of pesticides and limits water consumption!
