The French Riviera Community unveils the exhibition “Once Upon a Road, the Journey of the Romans in the Riviera” until September 22, at the Contemporary Art Gallery of the Palais de l’Europe in Menton.

Visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the ancient heritage of a territory frequently traveled during Roman times, particularly thanks to the construction of the Via Julia Augusta. This transportation route was established after the conquest of the southern Alps in 12-13 BC, and connected Rome to Gaul by following the coasts of Liguria and the French Riviera.

The exhibition offers an immersion into the Roman world, through the lifestyles, practices, and traditions surrounding this famous road. The visit is structured as a journey, allowing the discovery of both the history of the Roman Empire in the 1st century BC and all the specific features and major stages of Roman road construction. In total, around forty works illustrate and accompany visitors in this great leap into History.
