METROPOLE NICE COTE D’AZUR: The Departmental Commission for Intercommunal Cooperation gives a positive opinion

Latest News

The Departmental Commission for Intercommunal Cooperation, meeting on Friday, September 16, 2011, under the chairmanship of the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Jean Michel Drevet, issued a favorable opinion (33 FOR-6 AGAINST-1 abstention) for the creation of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis as of January 1, 2012.

This favorable vote follows the broad approval of the 46 municipalities of the future Metropolis, which had already advocated for the creation of this large intercommunal entity.

87% of the municipalities concerned, representing more than 97% of the population, have indeed validated this joint approach.

The next step will take place next month with the publication of the decree by the Minister of the Interior, which will officially create, as of January 1, 2012, the first Metropolis in France.

Christian Estrosi, Deputy, Mayor of Nice, President of Nice Côte d’Azur:

“The result of the votes unequivocally reflects the support of the municipal councils and the population for the future metropolis.

I am proud that this Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis will be the first Metropolis in France, stemming from the law on the reform of local authorities dated December 16, 2010″.
