The metropolitan council of Nice took place this Thursday, February 3, for new changes.
On the agenda: the creation of an urban planning agency.
Primarily appearing in major French cities, urban planning agencies aim to:
- Maintain the dynamic of preservation, enhancement, and sustainable development of the metropolitan territory.
- Enhance, through partnership approaches, consultation, and cooperation, the ability of municipalities to better manage, develop, preserve, and enhance their territory.
- Bring together more new skills in forecasting, observing territorial developments, evaluation, planning, and facilitating public debate.
During this metropolitan council, several ideas were proposed, such as budget orientation, sanitation, particularly the creation of an urban planning agency. Experts sent by the state attest that “the initiative of the metropolis is wise and meets a clear need.” It is proposed to the community to authorize the project of the Agency’s statutes, to decide that the Metropolis will be a member, for the Metropolitan Council to set the amount of the start-up grant for this association, and to choose the representatives who will participate in the extraordinary general meeting formed by the association.

The president of the Metropolitan Council Christian Estrosi announced the confirmation of the establishment of the urban planning agency. The State, the PACA region, the Chamber of Commerce, and the University of the Côte d’Azur, public intercommunal cooperation establishments, etc., will be involved. These changes will strengthen dialogue between territories and renew relationships between municipalities.
The Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis is committed to its viability conditions. While waiting for partnerships to be finalized, the start-up budget for this year 2022 is estimated at €2.2 million, including a €1.8 million contribution from the NCA Metropolis.
During its start-up phase, the Agency will consist of about fifteen people from the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis and the City of Nice, on a voluntary basis.

The agency’s goal is to provide support to the Azuréen territory but also to work closely with neighboring public establishments, the region, and border territories.
It will support and complement the actions of our services to strengthen the support of our municipalities and communities in the development and realization of their projects and in their strategic planning processes.
