This Wednesday, July 10th, the Metropolitan Council took place. Several delegates met at the Centre Universitaire Méditerranéen to discuss and vote on deliberations, playing a crucial role in managing and developing the metropolitan region. After budget management, here is a summary regarding sustainable development and transportation within the Metropolis.
The Metropolitan Council of Nice plays a central role in managing and developing transportation and mobility systems, as well as in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development through various initiatives. The Council addressed these topics this Wednesday, July 10th.
Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition
The report proposed and adopted five deliberations. They discussed a mid-term review of the Climate Plan, launched in 2019, aimed at combating climate change. This deliberation highlights the progress of the actions taken, but also the changes in trajectories and the commitments made for this crucial cause.
Following that, subsidies and awards were allocated to the winners of the 3rd edition of the “Antoine Risso: Heading Towards the Ecological Transition!” project call. This initiative aims to financially support local projects that favor environmental health. For this edition, the Metropolis received 53 applications, and a jury chaired by Richard Chemla selected 37 winners. Each selected project can receive up to €8,000 in aid.
Among the other deliberations adopted was the creation of a heat and cool network powered by geothermal energy in the eco-district Parc Méridia. The plan to accelerate renewable energies (ZADER) was approved, as was the quality charter for works by the Metropolis Nice Côte d’Azur and Enedis. This charter aims to enhance the exemplary nature of projects carried out on public property while ensuring high standards in sustainable development and energy management.
These decisions reflect the ongoing commitment of the Metropolis Nice Côte d’Azur towards ecological transition and sustainable development.
Transportation
It was proposed to approve the project for the T5 tramway line, subject to public inquiries. This line is part of the Climate Plan, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 22% by 2026 and by 55% by 2030. The T5 line will cover 7.6 km and serve the municipalities of Nice, La Trinité, and Drap.
Among the other deliberations adopted was the approval of the financial agreement terms for the project studies and works of the first part of phase 1 of the Line Nouvelle Provence Côte d’Azur. The Metropolis is financially contributing €578,527.14.
Next was the approval of the financial agreement terms for the contributions made for the preliminary studies of the Nice Airport project operation for phases 1 and 2 of the Line Nouvelle Provence Côte d’Azur. The Metropolis is contributing €20,650.79.
Finally, the agreement for the additional funding for the modernization of the Nice – Breil-sur-Roya line was approved, with a contribution from the Metropolis of €2,000,000.
