The metropolitan council unanimously voted this Friday on a support plan for the reconstruction and revitalization of the Vรฉsubie, Estรฉron, and Tinรฉe valleys.

The agenda of this metropolitan council was light in terms of deliberation but heavy in consequence. An urgent deliberation, like last weekend at the department, to initiate the reconstruction plan for the valleys affected for the past fifteen days. Since the morning after the disaster, more than 1,500 people (firefighters, law enforcement, military, geologists, volunteers, technicians, workers…) have been actively working on the ground to enable residents to return to a “normal” life.

To this end, an emergency fund of 20 million euros was quickly released to restore electrical, telephone, and water networks. In total, no less than 50 km of roads (15 km of secondary roads and 35 km of main roads) need to be redone, and more than 25 km of drinking water networks need to be restored. Waste disposal sites, service buildings, etc., need to be rebuilt.

The Nice Cรดte d’Azur metropolis thus voted for a specific fund of more than one billion euros, broken down as follows:

– 750 million euros dedicated to road infrastructures and engineering structures
– 200 million euros for strengthening riverbanks and embankments
– 30 million euros for drinking water supply
– 30 million euros for the reconstruction of the sewage network and treatment plants
– 10 million euros for the electrical network
– 10 million euros for the telecommunications network

Aid for Businesses

More than 1,500 businesses were affected or impacted by the bad weather on October 2. The Nice Cรดte d’Azur metropolis decided to provide them with financial support of 800,000 euros, complementing the exceptional solidarity aid of two million euros granted by the regional council.

A two-million-euro aid fund for stricken municipalities will be granted by the Metropolis as part of short-term support.

“Today, we must indelibly mark how this territory, in its human dimension, heart, soul, and generosity, must find its full meaning eight years after the founding of the first metropolis of France,” emphasized Christian Estrosi, who presided over this exceptional council in his capacity as president of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur metropolis.
