In 2004, his first album “De lโor et des poussiรจres” (Gold and Dust) sold 700,000 copies. The single “Viens jusqu’ร moi” (Come to Me) performed with Elodie Frรฉgรฉ was an undeniable success. He won the “Revelation” trophy at the 1st edition of the “Etoiles Chรฉrie FM” awards which took place on September 26, 2005. Michal won against Grรฉgory Lemarchal, Marilou, Amel Bent, and Ludovic Delamoga. He is therefore well on his way to a great career with “gold” at his fingertips and a voice without “dust.”
Nice-Premiรจre thus set out to meet this generous and humble artist.
Nice-Premiรจre: In 2004, you released your 1st album “De lโor et des poussiรจres,” why did you name it that?
Michal Kwiatkowski: The idea came from two songs featured on the album: TU METS DE LโOR (You Put Gold) and 20 ANS ET DES POUSSIERES (20 Years and Dust). I found the mix of the two to be very romantic and nostalgic, similar to the album’s mood, with a bit of light and hope coming from the GOLD.
N-P: In this album, you chose to perform in Polish a song from the movie Arizona Dreams by Kusturica, originally written by Iggy Pop and composed by Goran Bregovic: “To Nie Ptak” (It’s Not a Bird). Why did you do this cover?
M.K.: For the second album, I had time to compose and write the song in Polish myself. The first one was made quite quickly, so I wanted to find an existing song in Polish. I love a Polish singer named Kayah who had already covered this title. It’s because of her remarkable interpretation that I chose to sing it.
N-P: You covered “Ainsi sois-je” (So Be I), a song by Mylรจne Farmer, an artist you admire. What does this song represent to you?
M.K.: It’s a very important song for me because it’s the first one I sang in French a few years ago. It brings back many memories from the time when my adventure with French song began.
N-P: “It’s a sensual beauty who sometimes melts into tears” does this song “Glamour” hint at Elodie Frรฉgรฉ?
M.K.: Indeed, that line could be about her. She is so beautiful, and she knows tears!!! (laughs) but it goes no further.
N-P: The duet “Viens jusquโร moi” that you performed with Elodie Frรฉgรฉ is beautiful. It can be said that it was the great slow dance of the summer of 2004. Who came up with the idea to set this complicity between you two to music?
M.K.: Thank you. It was obvious for everyone and especially for us, that we make a duet after everything we had experienced together. Itโs therefore one of the rare decisions that everyone had at the same time and which was never questionedโit was obvious.
N-P: Your latest single “Mon tout” (My Everything), released on August 29, 2005, has just entered the top 50 singles chart. Who is your “Everything”?
M.K.: I have a lot of everythings!!! Thatโs why Iโm happy to sing the chorus 3 times, so I can address each chorus to another person who is dear to me. The people I love, my cats (why not)?
