In order to adapt to the natural evolution of the music market, with multiple changes and numerous innovations, you will find at Midem the new Direct2fan Camp space, the Visionary Monday, an exceptional day dedicated to major keynotes, the Innovation Factory, a new meeting and discovery area for market players, and the midemlab, an international competition open to innovative start-ups and application developers, a great success in 2011…
On the concert side, live music returns to the city… 2012 will see the launch of the midem festival, three evenings of exceptional concerts on January 28, 29, and 30 starting at 8:30 PM in a marquee set up on the esplanade of the Palm Beach Croisette.
A selection of international headliners and emerging artists will be present: Selah Sue, The Ting Tings, Brigitte, OrelSan, 2manydjs (DJ set), Shaka Ponk, Skip The Use, Stuck In The Sound, and Imany.
The fringe stage, renamed midem off, will offer a musical program in the heart of Cannes. The goal: to put live music back at the heart of midem, and to open this event up more to the people of Cannes, and more generally to all residents of the French Riviera.
The best bars and clubs in the city will host showcases of new talents from all over to join this program that complements the concert lineup of the midem festival.
From January 28 to 30, Da Da Da, Morrison Irish Pub, Morrison Lounge, Black Pearl, and Sparkling/l’Appart will host 3 to 5 groups each evening for free concerts open to all, starting at 7:00 PM!
Midem evolves but continues 30 years of tradition by making classical music a central element of the 2012 edition. On Monday, January 30, the classical night will take place at the Théâtre Croisette in the Palais Stéphanie (JW Marriott Cannes Hotel), in collaboration with the renowned British agency HarrisonParrott. This event, presented by trumpeter Alison Balsom, will also feature two rising stars of the moment: pianist Behzod Abduraimov and the Norwegian duo Mari & Hakon Samuelsen (violin and cello); the ensemble accompanied by the Orchestre Régional de Cannes PACA, under the direction of Conductor Philippe Bender.
Finally, on Sunday, January 29, don’t miss this year’s Taiwanese night in the ambassador’s lounge (level 4 of the Palais des Festivals). An evening open to everyone, with a showcase of current Taiwanese stars: MayDay, Matzka, and Yen-J.
