Migrant shelter in the Roya Valley: for the unyielding politicians, they must leave!

Latest News

In our article from yesterday, in which we informed about this initiative, we wrote… a case to follow. It’s an easy omen when thereโ€™s too much pressure, the pot overflows, and in this case, it surely has overflowed.

A new case is emerging, and it will be quite thorny: on one side are humanitarian reasons, and on the other, order and law.

Against the backdrop of the right-wing primary, local national-security advocates Eric Ciotti and Christian Estrosi have reacted to this situation and called on the authorities: migrants must be removed from this “illegal” refuge.

The problem is knowing where they should return because their home is rather far away!

Associations are coming to the aid of the migrants (Roya Citoyens being behind the initiative), and yesterday it was the turn of the association Les Ouvreurs and the LGBT Center Cรดte Azur, which has launched a subscription.

The dramatic situation discovered at the Italian border calls for solidarity, but we are well aware that the department of Alpes-Maritimes, where a third of the population is over 65 years old, thus more susceptible to security concerns, is not a land of welcome.

The electorate, as seen in every election, is predominantly in favor of a “hard” or “extreme” right, and the politicians follow this trend. Here, the overlap between the two political parties is a well-known fact.

Of course, the elected officials visit the Pope and, moved, kiss his hand, but they do not listen to the good words of the Holy Father, which get lost in the air.

What matters to them are the votes. As for the Pope’s blessing, they will think about it later… if at all!

The story is far from over, and the next sequence is yet to come.
