A handful of humor, a pinch of imagination, and a zest of parody. That somewhat describes the comic universe of Miss Gally. At 26 years old, this young woman from Nice has created a world from scratch with just a few strokes of her pencil.
It all started with a flash of inspiration: to create a blog for drawing characters. Véronique explains, “My characters are a mix of my imagination and people I meet in life. When it comes to real people, I exaggerate certain aspects of them. This makes each comic character unique.” Her dialogues are no less original. Miss Gally allows herself to speak freely. A trait that is reflected in both her blog and her way of communicating. Véronique admits, “My straightforwardness often earns me the wrath of those I unsettle.” Yet, this does not stop her from pursuing her passion: drawing.
Gradually, the idea made its way. And now she is a co-director of the Miniblog collection at Danger Public. Her aim: to get her stories on paper. The project takes off. Everything moves quickly. She becomes the director of the collection but still retains her spirit as an illustrator. After a few months of work and several “doodles,” the first mini-comics found their way onto shelves in October 2006. They sold like hot cakes. Véronique rejoices, “Currently, I’m working on the second edition of the Miniblogs. So, 10 little comic books for the autumn of 2007. On the schedule: implausible names, fantastic stories or those drawn from everyday life…”
Miss Gally’s journey is just beginning. Already, she confirms, “I have two new projects underway…” And though she now lives in Brest, one thing is certain: nothing will make her forget Nice, her hometown. The place where Miss Gally found the inspiration for her life’s work: comics.
