Mobilization against a new building in north Nice

Latest News

On Avenue Cyrille Besset, a property developer has bought a house at number 84 to demolish it and build a four-story building in its place. The residents of the nearby villas are mobilizing to ensure the neighborhood does not continue to degrade.

New buildings already stand on this avenue, and they spoil the view for the neighbors. The developer hopes to construct more after demolishing existing houses. They already own one and are trying to buy those nearby. The owners are regularly approached about this issue.

Fortunately, the permit to build 22 dwellings was denied because the Villa Arson located behind is a historic monument. Nonetheless, the battle is not yet won. The demolition permit has been granted, and the Local Urban Plan has since changed. This project represents money, so the buyer will not give up easily.

The remaining villas are already surrounded by buildings. If a new one is built, they will no longer see the sun, and “the firefighters will no longer have space to pass.” The residents are in contact with the city hall and are “not backing down”. 90 signatures have so far been collected against this construction. A new petition has just been launched online. You can sign it by clicking on this link, or by scanning the QR code below.

If they are not satisfied, some owners will sell their homes because they will have lost their quality of life. They will give in to the pressure from Cogedim Mรฉditerranรฉe. For years, they have reportedly been discouraged from renovating their homes due to a future construction.

Isabelle Visentin, deputy mayor in charge of the Cล“ur de Nice territory, came to inspect the site. She states that the city never expropriates. The city hall will not object if the building complies with the Local Urban Plan standards. Residents of Nice are worried and wonder if they will be able to prevent this project.

On an ecological level, it would be a disaster for biodiversity. The birds and hedgehogs (an endangered species) will be at risk. The vegetation will disappear.

The two St Barthรฉlรฉmy schools are already overcrowded and not accepting any more students. Therefore, there is no room for new families in the neighborhood.

This case is not isolated, as a construction site was supposed to start at the beginning of the week in Gairaut. Residents blocked it.
