This week on the Rock was marked by the announcement of several measures taken by the princely government. While the decisions made so far had mirrored those taken by the French government, this time the authorities in Monaco have requested all their citizens to have a health pass from August 23rd.
On July 22nd, the principality first announced the return of mandatory masks throughout the entire territory, except for the seashore.
Two days later, on July 24th, it was the requirement of presenting a health pass at the entrance of bars, cafes, and restaurants that was proclaimed by the Monegasque government.
Last night, yet another restriction due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the principality was announced. Indeed, the authorities of the principality decided to mandate all Monaco residents and employees, regardless of age, to obtain a health pass. This decision, which will take effect from August 23rd, was made in consultation with the National Council of Monaco and Prince Albert II.
The authorities in Monaco justified this decision by the rise in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant and praised the benefits of vaccination: “the vast majority of hospitalized patients are not vaccinated and have a younger profile. The princely government therefore reminds that vaccination is the most effective way to protect oneself and others.”
