More than 350,000 migrants have crossed the Mediterranean since January, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated yesterday.

And among them, at least 2,643 people have died at sea after attempting to reach Europe. Nearly 220,000 have arrived in Greece and nearly 115,000 in Italy, detailed the organization based in Geneva (Switzerland) in a document distributed to the media. More than 2,000 have arrived in Spain, and around a hundred in Malta.

This number of 350,000 people already far exceeds last yearโ€™s: throughout 2014, 219,000 migrants had crossed the Mediterranean, and some 3,500 people had died or gone missing in the Mediterranean, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
