The objective for MOSAÏC is to demonstrate to young French people, many of whom do not vote, that their ideas can be heard by politicians, provided these young people do not turn away from civic life. The Youth Pack 2012 is launched in partnership with the Press Club of France, the Robert Schuman Institute for Europe, and with the support of the Ministry of National Education, DAÏC, and ACSE.
The Youth Pack 2012 originated from a very simple idea: If France and politicians want to rely on the massive votes of the young, it is essential that politicians talk to them about subjects that affect and interest them.
What are these subjects? Political and economic ethics, housing, transportation, leisure, access to education, these are the topics most frequently mentioned in the general consultation conducted by MOSAÏC nationwide from April 30 to September 17.
The Youth Pack is a summary of the specific measures that were most frequently mentioned.
THE YOUTH PACK 2012 IS LAUNCHED!
The Youth Pack 2012 is the set of measures acclaimed by the 4,500 young French people consulted during the nationwide tour of the civic operation “I vote, therefore I am” organized from April 30 to September 24, 2011, by MOSAÏC, a federation free of any political ties.
In total, more than 20,000 young people were made aware of this national-scale action.
The 14 measures of the Youth Pack 2012 were collected in municipalities from both the right and the left: Lille, Clermont-Ferrand, Toulouse, Montpellier, Bordeaux, Nice, Lyon, St-Denis (93), and Paris.
These measures are addressed to the candidates for the 2012 presidential election. Starting in November 2011, they will be presented to the different candidates for the 2012 presidential election within the framework of their meetings with the Press Club of France.
The 14 measures of the Youth Pack 2012
So that the concerns of young French people are finally placed at the heart of political action…
Idea No. 1: TRANSPORTS
A single price for transportation for young people under 25 in France: 1€.
This measure should help to open up cities and regions. Young people will be free to visit their country, broaden their horizons, exchange ideas, or look for work thanks to increased mobility.
Idea No. 2: TRANSPORTS
Support for obtaining a driving license: Loan to finance its acquisition, and more inspectors to reduce waiting times.
Idea No. 3: HOUSING
Much more student housing. Young people are asking for a ratio of one housing unit for every two students.
Idea No. 4: EDUCATION
More scholarships for deserving students, and greater flexibility in awarding them.
Idea No. 5: EDUCATION
Facilitation by the Ministry of Labor of internship procurement for all students regularly enrolled and attending classes.
Idea No. 6: LEISURE
Financial coverage of sports licenses for young people under 25.
This will allow all young French people to be registered and practice a sport, with all the known benefits, including the promotion of respect for others.
Idea No. 7: LEISURE & QUALITY OF LIFE
More sports fields, green spaces, and gardens in suburbs, including community gardens. These allow various generations to meet, relax, cultivate flowers or foodstuffs, and improve air quality.
Idea No. 8: ENVIRONMENT
Encourage more respect for the environment among companies, regions, town halls, administrations, universities, hospitals, schools, and individuals.
Idea No. 9: POLITICAL LIFE
Make it mandatory to create a position of elected official in charge of citizenship in every city with more than 50,000 inhabitants. Also, create a Citizenship Officer position in Parliament.
Idea No. 10: POLITICAL LIFE
Limit the accumulation of electoral mandates in time and space.
This measure should allow each elected representative or representative better efficiency and fewer conflicts of interest. It would also potentially free up positions for young elected officials. The consultation of young French people organized by MOSAÏC highlighted a very strong demand for more ethics in political life.
Idea No. 11: POLITICAL LIFE
Quotas to ensure the presence of elected officials under the age of 25 in each region and municipality.
Idea No. 12: RESPECT
Emphasize the importance of respect and equity among citizens who differ by race, gender, or religion, particularly through education.
The creation of an additional national holiday for Jews and Muslims in France would follow this logic.
Idea No. 13: RESPECT
Create an undisputed Afnor standard for Halal.
This norm will allow for new revenue streams that could ensure the construction of dignified and transparently funded places of worship while ensuring better ethics in this still unregulated sector.
Idea No. 14: RESPECT
Favor the reintegration of young offenders under 25 through training in the practice and values of non-violent martial arts to reduce the use of prison sentences.
