On the occasion of a rain-interrupted qualifying session for the Italian Grand Prix, Fabio di Giannantonio secured his first pole position in MotoGP ahead of Marco Bezzecchi and Luca Marini. Johann Zarco and Fabio Quartararo will both start from the second row.
Italy was in celebration this Saturday at Mugello. While Francesco Bagnaia, who recorded the fastest time in the combined results of the first three free practice sessions, was tipped as the favorite for the qualifying session, it was a rookie who managed to master the tricky conditions to claim his first pole position in MotoGP.
Just minutes after a ceremony during which Valentino Rossi’s number 46 was permanently retired from the premier class, the two riders from the team he established made their presence felt. Indeed, right behind Marco Bezzecchi, it was “The Doctor’s” half-brother Luca Marini who completed an all-Italian front row. On a track that favors top speed, the Ducatis dominated the competition.
