Fabio Quartararo was in the fight for the win until the very end on Sunday at the Misano circuit. The Yamaha rider was outpaced by Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), his main rival in the quest for the world title. However, El Diablo, finishing 2nd, maintains a cushion of lead over him (48 pts).
Their duel kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. He lost it, but he hasn’t lost everything, far from it. Fabio Quartararo considers it “a good result overall” by conceding “only” five points to his runner-up in the general standings. He is satisfied with this: “We did the job, let’s stay calm.” This is the assessment made by the Yamaha rider, leading with a 48-point gap with four races remaining in the season.
Only Bagnaia seems capable of challenging him for this status. Reigning champion Joan Mir (Suzuki, 3rd) is 67 points behind, while fellow Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati-Pramac, 4th) is 93 lengths back.
